A Missional Must Read

There is not much that falls under the “must read” category, but this article is, IMHO, one of the ones that does:

Missional Missteps, by David Fitch.

  1. Good read, Marty. I especially enjoyed the first half of it – I think that he asks some penetrating questions. Sometimes the missional church can be so busy painting the “big picture” that they forget to actually minister to people. That is a problem. His answer in the second half of the essay was a little muddled, though. I understand what he is saying about the role of community and that is key, but he seemed to offer a fairly convoluted response as he went on. Maybe I’m just a bit dense, but it seems that he is still trying to work out the implications of missional theology in a local church context. This is why always reacting to prior abuses can be problematic. Not everything that comes from a felt-needs approach is wrong. Some of it can be quite biblical because it involves the personal way that God meets with us and redeems us. You just don’t want to stay there all the time.
